The home of the casket sets
Casket set, Satzobjektiv, trousse…
Before the invention of useable zoom lenses, this was
the simplest way to carry a large number of focal lengths into the field for an
outdoors photographer. These consist of at least three lens cells and a common
lens barrel or shutter, all contained in a small box – the casket.
To qualify as a casket set we feel that there should
be at least three lens cells as well as a barrel or shutter, thus disqualifying
the ”triple convertible” lenses. These are easily carried without needing
somewhere to keep the extra lens cells, and no box = no casket set.
Eventually this site will contain documentation on the most common casket
sets, as well as pictures of and pictures taken with casket sets.
For now, click the picture to go to some pictures OF the sets.
